Asimetrías económico-sociales en el interior de la Provincia de San Luis en el contexto regional y nacional

Abstract
Territorial development can be considered as a process of political-institutional and socioproductive transformation of the territory, that suggests the possibility of generating policies that articulate the sectorial with the territorial and the opportunity of forming productive sub-national regions (micro regional, interprovincial, etc.) to reverse the problems of concentration, foreign control and depopulation that deepen spatial asymmetries.
Some economic and social analysis at aggregate level show that San Luis is a province with positive indicators in relation to the whole country, while other micro studies of the social, economic and cultural indicate that inside the territory is lived a reality of backwardness and marginalization, with regional economies in descent, aging populations by migration of youth, illiteracy levels above the average, low rate of enrollment and graduation at the middle level and indicators of nbi alarming in some cases.
The main challenge to advance the study of territorial development in San Luis refers to the shortage of statistical information generated –or, in this case, published– from relevant provincial agencies. For example, recent reports of Gross Geographic Product date from 2007 and the Provincial Statistical Yearbooks, from 2008.
This present report seeks approximating a diagnosis of the situation and provincial socio-economic dynamics and their integration into the regional and national context, by the behavior of the main variables, with emphasis on those concerning the labor market and income distribution, appealing to alternative sources. It draws on INDEC data, the 2010 Census, the PHS, the Annual Survey of Urban Households and Hotel Occupancy Survey (HOS), with newer sampling information, in addition to provincial and regional quarterly reports, and reports of regional economic conditions of the Ministry of Economic and Development Planning of the Nation, among others .
